Anyone bringing a pet to Rancho Jacona is considered to have read and agreed to the following policies, which have been adopted to assure both your comfort and that of our other guests.

NOTE TO DOG OWNERS: If you do not take your dog to a groomer regularly, it is considered polite to take your dog to grooming prior to visiting. Groomers strip out all the loose, dead hair out of the dog’s coat, leaving the pet more conformtable and far less likely to shed.

When pet owners tell us they are bringing a pet, we place a sheet between the spread and the blankets on the bed; we place a sheet covering the couch. If pet owners remove these sheets, there is often dog hair in the blankets and a thick coat of hair on the couch. Dog hair is not easily removed from blankets by washing and drying, often rerequiring repeated attempts at getting it out. If this is the case, it is reported to the office by housekeeping, and there will be an additional laundry charge after you leave. Quilts are removed from the beds as a precaution to insure they is no damage during your stay.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT CATS OR DOGS IN BUTTERFLY, RABBIT OR FROG HOUSE, AS THESE HOUSES CANNOT BE BOTH CLEANED AND DEHAIRED IN ONE DAY. WE DO NOT ACCEPT DOGS THAT ARE UNSOCIALIZED AND THREATEN OR ATTACK OTHER ANIMALS OR PEOPLE, EVEN IF THEY ARE CONSTANTLY LEASHED. IF YOU HAVE A HOSTILE DOG, A NEW DOG THAT HAS NOT YET BEEN SOCIALIZED, PLEASE DO NO BRING THAT DOG.

WALKING: POOP SCOOPING: Whenever your dog is out of doors on Rancho Jacona land, he or she must be on the leash except when in an “off- leash” area. While on the leash do not allow your dog to Pee OR Poop on gardens, lawns or shrubs. One dog “ marking territory” can kill expensive plantings and shrubs during a three day stay. “Off-leash” areas include the wind sculptures. These are areas requiring poop scooping where your dog may run free. Please walk the perimeter of any fenced pasture you plan to used to be sure your dog is not able to crawl under any openings and that all gates have been closed. Urine on graveled areas is no problem. If your pet defecates on driveway, gravel walks or patios, PLEASE CLEAN IT UP. We do have a supply of poop scooping bags if you failed to bring some with you.

PET CLEANING FEE:

* Exept for animals in cages (hamsters, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, parrots, etc.)

We charge a one-time fee of $50.00 per dog in a studio, $ 100.00 per dog in a larger House. With the exception of having spoken with the main office, dogs are welcome in the Butterfly, Rabbit or Frog House with a one-time fee charge of $150.00 per dog. We do accept cats; Pet Fee for cat in small house is $120.00, and a larger house is $150.00. We do not accept cats in the Butterfly, Rabbit or Frog House. No exceptions. Our charges and cleaning fees are based of the approximate cost of housekeeping and laundry time to “de-hair” a casita for future guests who may have allergies. Long term guests, those staying two weeks or more, are charged one full rate day in addition to their stay to allow for “de-hairing” of all fabrics surfaces. All pet fees are ONE-TIME charges plus tax. Additional charges may be made if cover sheets are removed and pets have been allowed on blankets or upholstered couches.

NOISE AND DESTRUCTION: Pets are not to be left in the casita unattended unless they are accustomed to traveling with you and used to being alone without being noisy, destructive or clawing the door. If your dog is disturbing other guests with constant barking or whining, we will remove the pet to the outdoor pen by the main house. You are expected to pay for extra cleaning, including professional carpet cleaning and furniture cleaning required to clean up animal excrementnor vomiting, as well as for replacement or refinishing of damaged or vanished furnishings, woodwork, doors or walls.

CATS: Some cats are good travelers, used to it, consistently able to differentiate between a nice new couch and a litter box. Others travel seldom, if ever, and consider the nice new couch to be an excellent place to urinate. Steam cleaning a couch to get cat urine out of it costs around $300.00. Re-covering and padding a couch when one cannot remove the cat pee out of it is around $ 1000.00. Buying a new sofa bed is around $ 2,500.00. We’ve had do all three. If you’re at all worried about it, leave your cat, bed, food water, and litter box in the bathroom with the door shut each time you leave the house and keep an eye on kitty between.

BLANKET AND TOWELS: Please bring your own pet bed or blanket and ask us for pet towels if you need them. We often have to count fabrics used on pets as destroyed since providing new ones is less expensive than picking hair from terrycloth or blanket nap. Our housekeepers are very good, and they see, smell and unfold all.

THE POOL: New Mexico Environmental regulations ban dogs (with the exemption of verifiable service dogs on a leash) from pool enclosure. This includes all of the lawn area between the gated wall or fence and the pool itself .

Most of our guests and most of their pets enjoy the place tremendously. If your dog poops on the carpets and your cat sprays the house, please leave them at home with a sitter.
