Pets Welcome Santa Fe | Los Alamos -- Pet Friendly

Cabins, Cottages, Casitas - Santa Fe Vacation Rentals Are Pet Friendly - Santa Fe

Rancho Jacona Santa Fe is animal friendly. Pets are accepted in all houses except Frog, Rabbit, or Butterfly House unless they are non shedding and the only dogs we recognize as “non-shedding” are those with wool instead of hair, such as poodles, bichons, and Portuguese water dogs.

When you make your reservation, tell us that you are bringing your pet(s) so the pet policy can be sent to you with your confirming letter. Read it when it arrives. If there is any part of it you disagree with, call immediately, and your deposit will be refunded in full without question. Some pet owners, for example, love having their dogs with them in their pool at home. Rancho Jacona's pool must be maintained in accordance with state regulations, which don't allow dogs in the pool enclosure. It's important to know these things in advance.

While leashes are generally required in order to protect wandering peafowl and reduce the possibility of a confrontation with skunks, there are places at Rancho Jacona where dogs can run off the leash and usually at least one fenced pasture where they can explore while you do something else.

Cost for Pets at Rancho Jacona

There is a one-time dehairing fee for pets:

  • $25 per hairy pet in a small house
  • $40 per hairy pet in a large house
  • No fee for caged animals or non-shedders.
The only dogs we recognize as "non-shedding" are those with wool instead of hair, such as poodles, bichons, and Portuguese water dogs

Pet Policy

We do have a policy on pet behavior. Please ask for pet policy.

Most Of Our Santa Fe Rental Houses Are Available For Pets - But Not All

Rancho Jacona is welcoming to most pets but here are some parameters that will help you in determining if we will be able to welcome your pet at Rancho Jacona.

Pets That Rancho Jacona Is Able to Welcome

    • Any securely caged animals usually accepted as a pet . We have had guinea pigs, rabbits, mice, rats, lizards, macaws, hamsters, and even a boa.
    • There are, however , exceptions -- pets that Rancho Jacona is unable to accept -- such as:
      • poisonous snakes - or very large ones, wild animals, the larger cats, or parrots that are on a stand but not caged (they chew wood, including doors, cabinets, the legs of furniture.)
      • wolves or wolf-dogs
      • Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and Mastiffs.
      • fish tanks
      • horses or other equines

When You Bring Your Pet to Rancho Jacona Accommodation Santa Fe and Los Alamos

Of course, we know that our guests will clean up after their pet and make sure that the barks, yowls, squeaks, and peeps are kept to a low level. We all want to enjoy everything.

We provide you with a sheet and towels for your pet so that you can cover the couch and/or bed and clean muddy feet and dusty paws.

If your dog gets on the furniture at home, or if your cat has claws, please tell us. We will slipcover the couch in advance of your visit, remove our valued quilts and shams, and cover the bed with what we call a “dog sheet”, that is, one that is no longer suitable for using as bed linen but is sanitary and protective.

If you are accustomed to sleeping with a dog or cat between the sheets with you, please tell us. Your bed will then be made up with “dog sheets” as the linens. If you do not tell us and we can’t get the hair or stains out, you will be billed for replacement bedding.

If we know you are bringing a dog, we always provide a “dog towel,” for wiping muddy feet – or whole creatures. You will know the dog towels and dog sheets because they have large black ink writing on the edges “DOG SHEET, or DOG TOWEL.”

The only place your dog can be alone, without you nearby, is in the fenced, dog-run pasture.
